Now is an excellent time to be interested and involved in Virginia wines. They are coming to the international stage and winning recognition for their vintners and their region, as well as winning medals! Not so surprising to those of us who’ve been enjoying truly well-crafted Virginia wines for a while now, but it’s always nice to know the rest of the world is catching on! Attimo, one of Virginia Wineworks’ custom winemaking clients, just won the Double Gold as well as “Best in Class” in the International East Coast wine competition for their Vidal Blanc. Way to go, Rik and Melissa Obiso! Other custom wine winners (Gold at the Virginia State Fair) include:
Annefield Vineyards 2009 Cabernet Franc, 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
Democracy Vineyards 2009 Velvet Revolution, 2009 Forum
The Hague Winery 2009 Meritage
Reynard Florence Vineyard 2009 Petit Manseng
Another piece of evidence that Virginia wine is gaining more global acclaim is the fact that Charlottesville is hosting the North American Wine Blogger’s Conference this year. Wine bloggers are so important for Virginia wine–making sure that word gets out about the quality, the dedication, and the people involved in Virginia viticulture. The conference starts next week on July 22nd, and you can stay up-to-date on the events here. Thanks to everyone who is working to make sure Virginia wine is recognized and appreciated for the great wine it is!
