Michael Shaps Merlot 2015
The Merlot grape was initially intended to be blended before Michael walked by the crush pad during harvest and smelled its wonderful aroma—he then decided to make it as a single varietal. This shows great respect for the quality of the merlot grape that year from the Grapelawn vineyard in Nelson County, a private family vineyard from one of the growers at Rougemont vineyard. Aged in 25% new French oak, 25% two-year old oak, and 50% neutral oak for 16 months. Notes of vanilla and toast. A very approachable and unique wine, as Michael only makes one about every five years.
