Michael Shaps Merlot 2021

Our Merlot showcases what excellent fruit can produce in Virginia. Vibrant acidity matched with soft tannins and balanced alcohol puts this merlot closer to that of the right-bank wines from Bordeaux than its counterparts in California. This wine delivers rich, dark fruit flavors like blackberry and plum as well as hints of leather, tobacco, and smoke on the finish. Using only 50% new oak, we were able to soften the tannins without overpowering some of the wine’s primary aromas and flavors. The firm structure of this wine will allow it to cellar for about 7-10 years. Pair with flank steak, barbequed pulled pork, and grilled mushrooms.
